Dr Yasmin Maza returns to The Hybrid Layer to present part two of her exclusive webinar series: Biomimetic Dentistry from A-Z. This lecture series is presented in Spanish, with English and Spanish subtitles available. In Part 2, Dr Maza gives an overview of the importance of carrying out structural analysis of any tooth which we plan to restore. This requires a foundational understanding of the biomechanics of the natural tooth, and a fundamental knowledge of the materials which we use to Biomimetically restore teeth. Dr Maza emphasises the importance of preserving tooth structure and outlines the roles of enamel and dentin in distributing forces in order to avoid catastrophic fracture. She also outlines the protocols that we can use to structurally analyse a tooth and discusses dissection of cracks.
Aims & Objectives:
1) Review the concept of the peripheral seal zone and the techniques used to preserve pulp vitality.
2) Gain an insight into how enamel and dentin work together to distribute forces.
3) Understand how traditional dentistry can result in structural compromises and increase the likelihood of catastrophic fractures.
4) Learn how to structurally analyse a tooth and gain insight into the biomimetic management and treatment of cracks into dentin.
