Resin Infiltration: Treating Anterior Enamel Defects with ICON.
presented by:
Dr Giedre Uze
Dr Giedre Uze presents a structured, step-by-step guide to resin infiltration using ICON for the treatment of enamel defects caused by caries, fluorosis, trauma, and molar incisor hypomineralisation. She covers thorough clinical assessment, defect classification, and the role of transillumination in evaluating lesion depth and guiding treatment decisions. The lecture walks through each clinical step: bleaching as a preparatory treatment, surface preparation with sandblasting or microabrasion, ICON Etch, ICON Prime as a result simulator, and deep versus standard infiltration protocols. Dr Uze also addresses composite bonding for deeper defects, adhesion considerations for MIH-affected teeth, and finishing and polishing technique. Clinical cases with follow-up results are used throughout to illustrate protocol selection and outcomes.
Aims & Objectives:
1) Understand how to classify enamel defects by aetiology and assess lesion depth using transillumination to guide treatment planning.
2) Evaluate the role of bleaching as a preparatory step before resin infiltration and its effect on chromatic difference, infiltrant penetration, and adhesion timing.
3) Apply the 10-step ICON resin infiltration protocol, including surface preparation, selective etching, result simulation with ICON Prime, and deep infiltration techniques.
4) Identify when composite bonding is required after infiltration and select the appropriate adhesive strategy based on enamel condition and defect depth.
