Clinical Application of Modern Cariology.
presented by:
Dr Jorge Aravena Diaz
In order to truly understand, diagnose, and treat dental caries, we must be able to distinguish between the disease itself and the lesions it causes. In this course, Dr Jorge Aravena Diaz explores the shift from an outdated “drill and fill” mindset to a modern, patient-centred approach that emphasises diagnosis, prevention, and minimally invasive treatment. Participants will learn to assess caries risk, classify lesions using ICDAS, and determine the appropriate intervention based on lesion activity and radiographic findings. By applying the latest scientific guidance, clinicians can make evidence-based decisions to effectively manage caries and promote long-term oral health.
Aims & Objectives:
1) Differentiate between dental caries as a disease and caries as a lesion to improve diagnostic accuracy.
2) Understand the principles of caries risk assessment and the role of CAMBRA in disease control.
3) Learn to classify and assess carious lesions using ICDAS to determine the appropriate intervention strategy.
4) Explore non-invasive, micro-invasive, and minimally invasive treatment approaches based on lesion activity and radiographic findings.
